With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching we wanted to take a look at some misconceptions brands may have around the best way to show consumers they care.

Whilst monetary compensation in the form of discounts and gift cards are one way to show your consumers you appreciate them, it can sometimes be quite sterile or impersonal. Whilst it’s not for everyone, research shows that an “old fashioned” thank you note is a impactful way to engage with today’s consumer, mentioning that handwritten notes are best. Like mum always said, it’s the thought that counts.

This sent us to the world wide web to find out what the word on the street is on appreciation.

An often-overlooked way to show appreciate is to listen instead of speaking. Pay attention to your consumer feedback, make sure they know you both value it and are doing something about it. V-Day may just be the perfect excuse to pay special attention to those of your consumers who took the time to let you know how they feel.

If your perception is that the older generation must spend more on Valentine’s Day because they’re more settled with higher incomes, you’d be sorely mistaken. The highest spend of an average of £41.84 is by Millennials born 1981-1996. But are they coupled up? The answer is not always, half the people spending money on Valentine’s day are single and either treating themselves to a beautiful display of 21st century self-love or heading out with friends.

When it comes to your social media activity on the international day of love, remember that affection comes in all shapes and sizes. It’s also not just a holiday for couples although most people tend to spend the highest on their significant other, they also spend money on friends, family, co-workers, classmates, teachers and pets. It’s forecast that Brits will spend £1.45 billion on gifts this year. Is there anything you can do to encourage them to gift your brand to show a little love to their circle of trust?

So, taking our own advice, to whoever is reading this, thank you for taking the time to read our articles. Whether this is your first time on our website or your fiftieth, we appreciate you! Have a Happy Valentine’s Day.

Love,
